RECYCLING IN ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY

Click here to read the County’s recycling brochure. Inside the brochure is information about the single stream recycling program including what residents can and cannot recycle.

Types of plastic bags that can be recycled:

  • Grocery bags
  • Retail bags (hard plastic and string handles removed)
  • Paper towel and toilet paper plastic wrap
  • Plastic newspaper bags
  • Plastic dry cleaning bags
  • All clean, clear bags labeled with a #2 or #4

Note: Please recycle only plastic bags that are clean and dry. Please 
remove receipts.

Do NOT include the following.

The following are considered contaminants and could jeopardize recycling programs:

  • NO food or cling wrap
  • NO prepackaged food bags including frozen food bags (e.g., prewashed salad bags)
  • NO film that has been painted or has excessive glue
  • NO other bags or films
  • NO bio-based or compostable plastic bags

Where to Recycle your Plastic Bags:

  • All County Convenience Centers “Dumps”, which are closed on the following days:

Labor Day (new closure)

Thanksgiving Day

Christmas Day

New Years Day

Easter Sunday (new closure)

Memorial Day (new closure)

Independence Day/July 4th

  • Elementary Schools
  • Windsor Town Office – Windsor
  • Blackwater Regional Libraries – Smithfield, Windsor, Carrollton
  • Colonial Farm Credit – Windsor
  • Farm Fresh – Smithfield
  • Bloom -  Smithfield and Carrollton
  • Food Lion – Windsor
  • DAV Thrift Store – Smithfield
  • County Government Offices – Isle of Wight
