Final School Competition Update – April 22, 2010
After almost 8 months of collecting plastic, the County’s first elementary school plastic bag recycling program competition has come to an end on this, the 4oth Anniversary of Earth Day. All of the elementary schools did a fantastic job recycling plastic film; however, one school out-collected them all.
Congratulations to Windsor Elementary!!!
They collected 5,670.6 pounds of plastic/396,942 plastic bags.
Thank you to everyone for all of your enthusiasm and support of the program. Thank you so much to all of the parents, teachers, administrators, volunteers, and children for all of your efforts. Thank you to Trex and Farm Fresh, our recycling partners.
The formula used to calculate the winner is as follows:
Total plastic bags collected/student enrollment = Bags collected per student
Here are the final totals!
1st Place – Windsor Elementary – 5,670.6 pounds of plastic/396,942 plastic bags
2nd Place – Carrsville Elementary - 1,457.5 pounds/102,025 plastic bags
3rd Place – Carrollton Elementary – 2,707.5 pounds/189,525 plastic bags
4th Place – Hardy Elementary – 1,122.3 pounds/78,561 plastic bags
5th Place – Westside Elementary – 860 pounds/60,200 plastic bags
Grand Total for all 5 schools = 11,817.9 pounds/827,253 plastic bags
Windsor Elementary School receives a pizza party and a Trex bench for their school! The pizza party will take place before the end of the school year!
