Isle Be Green Artz Workshop

Experience a variety of green art techniques, each of which will assist the student in a spontaneous exploration of their personal environment and connection to the natural world. This process enlivens curiosity and positive interactions with the biodiversity of the region while expanding observation skills and an appreciation of the natural environment. Students will produce an "Isle Be Green Artz" animal inspired by images of birds, reptiles, or fish that would be found in the local environment. This workshop is free to attendees. Paid for by a grant from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Ages 9 - 12 years old March 20 and 27 (must attend both sessions) 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Ages 13 - Adult March 20 and 27 (must attend both sessions) 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Register with the Smithfield Cultural Arts Center by phone at 757-357-7707 by March 14 at 5 p.m. Visit the website for more information.

Healthy Kids Day in the Park 2010/Isle Be Green Bag Exchange

Healthy Kids Day in the Park 2010, a collaboration between Luter YMCA and Isle of Wight Parks & Recreation is scheduled at Nike Park for Saturday, April 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Organizations dedicated to improving the health, wellness, safety and literacy and agencies who offer interactive screenings, activities, games, and information for families will be present. Call 365-4060 to help. Isle Be Green will be onsite at the HR Wet trailer conducting a bag exchange. The first 200 people who bring 10 plastic bags will receive 1 Isle Be Green reusable bag in exchange. (Limit 1 per person, first-come, first-served)
